Central High School boys basketball coach Scott Givens announced his resignation today after four years of coaching and teaching in Coffee County.
Givens will take a position as assistant boys basketball coach at South Forsyth High School in Cumming, Ga., northeast of
Atlanta. He will be assisting head coach Manson Hill, who won back-to-back Georgia state girls basketball titles at nearby Gainesville High School in 2003 and 2004. Givens assisted Hill both years the Gainsville girls were state champions.
“Manson Hill is a mentor of mine. He’s won four state championship as a girls coach,” Givens said. “He’s very pivotal in where I am as a basketball coach.”
Givens said that the decision to return to Georgia was not only good professionally but was best for his family. Givens’s wife, Jenny, is from that area of Georgia, and their two small children are at good ages to make the move without having to change schools.
“Now’s the right time for my family and myself to move back to Georgia,” Givens said.
Givens said he will miss working with his players, co-workers and administrators in Coffee County.
“I’m very appreciative of the administration at Central High School, from Mary Duvall and Dale Alsup who hired me, to John Bush and Paul Parsley and Richard Skipper.”
Givens took over the program from Andrew Taylor.
