Buchanan returning to state track meet
Three Coffee County Central High School sports teams entered sectional competition this month to earn an opportunity to participate in this week’s Blue Cross-Blue Shield Spring Fling in Murfreesboro. But after the soccer team, softball squad, and all other track athletes failed to make the cut, only one CHS competitor remains for state-level competition: senior runner Ta’Neesa Buchanan.
Buchanan will compete Wednesday in the girls 400-meter dash at the state track meet in Murfreesboro. She earned a spot in this year’s state tournament after finishing fourth in the Section 2 meet at Rhea County on May 14 with a time of 1:01.49.
A two-sport athlete while at CHS, Buchanan is no stranger to competition at the state level. Last season Buchanan was one of four CHS tracksters to compete at the state meet.
Buchanan says she is “very excited” about the prospect of returning to the Spring Fling.
“I think I’m better prepared this year, because I know what it takes to get to state. I think have a chance to get higher than eighth place,” where she finished last year, Buchanan said. “I think I’ve worked harder in practice because I know exactly what it took.”
