Four Central High School Lady Raiders received special recognition at this year’s softball banquet. Second baseman Taylor Barnes received the Raider Award, catcher Ashlyn Young received the Leadership Award, and third baseman Bethany Baker earned the Perseverance Award. Shortstop Ginny Clayborne received both the Gateway Tire Horizon Award and the Player of the Year Award, given by Gateway Tire and Thunder Radio.
Other awards were announced at the banquet as well. Ace pitcher Brianna Jones was the sole Lady Raider named to the all-state team by the Tennessee Softball Coaches Association (TSCA). Jones was also named first team by the Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Assocation (MTSCA); Clayborne and pitcher Bricen Hunt were named second-team mid-state by the MTSCA.
All mid-state all-stars were announced earlier for last season’s seniors. Clayborne and Young were both named to the TSCA all-star team, and Clayborne was also selected for the MTSCA team. Clayborne, Alaina Lusk, Kelsey Adams and Anna Spellings were also named academic all-stars.
