EVERYTHING BUT SPORTS: Tuesday linkfest!
It’s time once again for the Tuesday linkfest! The first few links go along with yesterday’s post on some of the history behind today’s attacks on both Americanism and Christian values. Here, for example, is candidate Barack Obama’s promise of “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” A minute-and-a-half collection of longer excerpts from the same speech are here. For a total of about a half hour of videos on the Soviet Union’s Cold War long-game of transforming the U.S., see interviews with a purported former KGB officer here and here. Finally, I don’t recommend that you swallow these assertions undigested, but for some chilling facts on the life of Barack Obama, check out this nine-minute video.
For a somewhat academic overview of the kinds of things I wrote about yesterday, see this Wikipedia article on Alasdair MacIntyre’s book, After Virtue.
The final batch of links is some of the generally fascinating stuff I’ve come across. For example, check out these drawings and paintings that look like photographs, and this color film of London in the 1920s. As a writer and student of language, my favorite is this collection of U.S. maps showing vocabulary and pronunciation differences across the country.
