EVERYTHING BUT SPORTS: Dry spells

Yesterday I never did write anything here–not even a note saying that I didn’t have anything to say. I apologize to both of you for that little failure.

In Christian discipleship, like in writing, sometimes you hit dry spells. Christians may not feel “spiritual” much of the time. Still, we need to keep doing the things we are called to do as Christians–putting on Christ–and avoiding the things we ought to avoid–sinning. Most of the time, in fact, it doesn’t matter nearly so much how we feel as it does what we do.

That’s why the Bible puts so much value on steadfastness. The loving mercy of God, in fact, is described by the Old Testament Hebrew word ה ס ד (hesed), often translated as “lovingkindness” or “steadfast love.” Steadfastness–doing the same thing, the right thing, day after day–is not a quality much appreciated in our day and time. But God appreciates it, and he offers it to us every day.
