Manchester 13s eliminated in state; 15s advance in district

Manchester Little League’s 13-year old all-stars were eliminated Thursday in Tennessee’s first 50/70 Transition League state tournament in Spring Hill. Manchester’s 15-year-old Babe Ruth all-stars, however, move to the district winner’s bracket finals tonight after a 13-1 win over Franklin County Thursday.
The 13-year olds, playing South Jefferson County in their third game in the state tournament, fell behind 3-0 before scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. South Jefferson added an insurance run in the seventh while striking out the side in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Overall the Manchester all-stars went 1-2 in the state tournament with a loser’s bracket win over Burns and a first-round loss to Mt. Juliet.
Playing at Decherd, the Manchester Babe Ruth all-star 15s shut down Franklin County while hammering the ball at the plate. The game ended with the 10-run rule after Alex Williams smashed a walk-off grand slam to end the game. Manchester is set to play again Friday at 5 p.m. in Decherd.
The Manchester 11- and 12-year-old Little League all-stars are scheduled to play a district elimination game in the loser’s bracket finals Friday at 6 p.m. in Tullahoma.
After finishing as district runners-up, Manchester’s Babe Ruth 14-year-old all-stars will play in the state tournament in Manchester July 19-21.
