12-year-olds eliminated, 15-year olds going to state

milton stanley bylineManchester’s last contending Little League all-star team, the 11- and 12-year-olds, was eliminated from district competition Friday in a 12-8 loss to Tullahoma. Manchester’s Babe Ruth all star 15s, however, advance to the state tournament after winning the district championship with an 8-4 win over Franklin County.

Manchester’s Little League all-stars jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first, but Tullahoma took it away with a seven-run second. Manchester tied it at 8 with a home run by Andrew Smith in the third but was unable to score in the final three innings as Tullahoma plated four more.

In Babe Ruth action, Manchester jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first inning as the team batted around and Wyatt Day, Zach Wise, Alex Williams, Dusty Harryman, Boone Riddle, Kohl Young and Caleb Hunt all crossed the plate. Young got the win.

Both Manchester Babe Ruth teams now proceed to their respective state tournaments beginning Friday, July 19. The 15-year olds play at Lawrenceburg, and the 14-year olds compete in Manchester.
