On Monday both Manchester and Marshall County were placid at the plate until the fourth. At the top of that inning Manchester’s Dusty Harryman hit a one out single but was forced out on a fielder’s choice on Boone Riddle’s grounder to second. Samuel Brown followed with a two-out single, and both Riddle and Brown were driven home on a hit by Brandon Sain.

The Marshall County all-stars answered with three runs of their own to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Marshall County added another in the fifth while holding Manchester to one hit and no runs that frame.

In the sixth, however, Manchester pulled into the lead for good as the first three batters scored. Harryman led off the inning with a solo home run and was followed with hits by Riddle, Brown, Sain and Kohl Young.

On the mound Manchester starter Dallas Bryan struck out five and walked two in four innings. Brown got the win in two innings of relief, and Day shut down Marshall County with two strikeouts in the seventh for the save.

At the plate Harryman was three for four with six total bases. Day went two for four with a double.

After losing their first state tournament game 4-2 against defending champion Giles County on Friday, the Manchester all-stars went on to beat Franklin County 5-4 and Putnam County 9-6 before topping Marshall County.

Manchester is now four wins away from an Eastern Tennessee state title. In Babe Ruth baseball, the Eastern Tennessee state organization covers the 74 counties east of the western bend of the Tennessee River.
