Manchester Babe Ruth’s 14-year-old all-stars lost to 7-4 to Cookeville Tuesday to finish third in the state tournament in Manchester. The 15-year-olds for their part won against both Smoky Mountain and Lebanon to guarantee a first- or second-place finish tonight in Lewisburg.
The all-star 14s won their first three games before coming up short Monday against Franklin Stealth, which went on to win the state tournament. Overall Manchester finished 3-2 in state competition.
Manchester’s 15-year olds beat Smoky Mountain 9-4 Tuesday afternoon and went on to defeat Lebanon 17-12 Tuesday night.
Manchester’s Dallas Bryan and Boone Riddle had particularly good days at the plate Tuesday. Bryan smacked five hits and scored three runs over both games, and Riddle had two RBIs and five runs scored. Dusty Harryman hit a double and two singles on the way to recording two runs and two RBIs.
Tuesday’s wins were the fifth and sixth in a row for Manchester after a loss in its opening game against defending state champions Giles County.
The all-star 15s face undefeated host team Lawrenceburg tonight at 5:30. If Manchester’s all-stars win that game, they would play Lawrenceburg again at 8 p.m. for the championship in the double-elimination tournament.
