Manchester 15s no-hit by Lawrenceburg, finish second
Manchester Babe Ruth baseball’s 15-year-old all-stars finished second in the state tournament after being no-hit by host team Lawrenceburg in a 10-0 loss Wednesday.
Bryce Clifft allowed only two Manchester base runners–Wyatt Day walked and Alex Williams grounded into a fielder’s choice–as Lawrenceburg scored exactly enough runs to invoke the 10-run rule to end the game after five.
Manchester had lost its first game to Giles County in the Eastern Tennessee state tournament, but the all-stars won their next five to earn an opportunity to play winner’s bracket champion Lawrenceburg in the double-elimination tournament. Manchester’s winning streak included victories over Franklin County (5-4), Cookeville (9-6), Marshall County (5-4), Smoky Mountain (9-4) and Lebanon (17-12).
Including two victories over Franklin County in district competition, Manchester’s 2013 all-star 15s compiled a 7-2 record.
Earlier this week Manchester Babe Ruth’s 14-year-old all-stars finished third in their state tournament in Manchester.
