I’m inclined to avoid theological language, or even the term theology. If a point of doctrine or theology is not one I can teach to Christians in the pews, without resorting to theological jargon, then it’s probably not worth holding. The Word of God is clear enough on what we ought to believe and what we ought to do, and I suspect a lot of theology is little more than scholarly chest-thumping.
Of course, I know that bias on my part is unfair. Theology is just another word for doctrine. And yes, although the former word never appears in the Bible, the term in and of itself is neutral. There’s good and bad theology just like there’s good and bad doctrine.
I hope and pray that what you read here is good. Today’s column has been mainly about introducing the weekly feature. For a sample of the kind of things we’ll be dealing with on Thursdays, you might like to have a look at yesterday’s post.
Thanks for reading.
