Friday wasn’t the start to the 2013 football season the Coffee County Central Red Raiders were hoping for.
Battle Ground Academy built a 38-0 lead by early in the third quarter and cruised to a 52-20 beating of the Red Raiders at Carden-Jarrell Field in Manchester.
It took the BGA Wildcats only five plays to score in each of their first two possessions in the first quarter. The Wildcats scored two more TDs and a field goal in the second quarter to lead 31-0 at the half.
Coffee County managed three touchdowns in the second half on a short run by quarterback Peyton Meeker and two more by tailback DeAngelo Rozier. But any hopes of a late rally were thwarted by three more BGA touchdowns.
Rozier was targeted by the Wildcats defense all night. He was stuffed for only 57 yards on 20 totes. Howes added 39 yards on the ground on seven attempts.
The Red Raiders (0-1 overall / 0-0 District 8-AAA) travel to Rhea County (0-0) for a 6:30 p.m. CST kick next Friday….
