CHS swept in Columbia
Lucas Crismond splits two Columbia defenders on his way to the basket Friday night in Columbia. The senior led CHS with 25 points in the game.
In the first District 8-AAA action of 2014 the Raiders and Lady Raiders lost to the league-leading Lions and Lady Lions.
The Lady Raiders could not stop Columbia’s Keiana Gilbert (33 points) and Makayla Timmons (25 points) in a 74-41 loss.
Columbia jumped out to a 23-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Lions led 41-17 at the half and 62-29 after three.
Tyger Fenton led the Lady Raiders with eight points followed by Cameron Davis and Sara Brown with seven each.
The second game of the night was much different but had the same result as the Raiders gave the Lions all they could handle. Coffee County matched Shelbyville as the only team in 8-AAA Columbia has not beaten by double digits.
The Raiders led 45-41 at the end of the third quarter and extended the lead 48-41 with a Wyatt Day 3-pointer to the start the finals stanza. Coffee County held the lead until the Lions went on a 7-0 run and took a 57-55 lead with three minutes to go in the game.
With 1:08 left in the game Anthony Jackson hit a pair of freethrows to pull the Raiders within two, 59-57 but the Raiders only managed four more points in the game, falling 66-61.
Tuesday night CHS hosts Tullahoma in District 8-AAA action.
