The Motlow Bucks extended their winning streak to five games with a 93-39 rout of the Bryan College JV team in Dayton, TN on Monday. Motlow will host conference rival Volunteer State on Saturday, Jan. 25, with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Bucks (9-8, 4-5) also made a move towards the upper half of the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) standings with wins over Dyersburg State and Southwest Tennessee at Copperweld Arena during the past weekend.

Motlow blew out Dyersburg State 96-70 Friday night, and then followed that with an 87-73 upset of nationally-ranked Southwest Tennessee on Saturday. Southwest is coached by former Bucks head coach Jerry Nichols.

Friday night the Bucks were never threatened by visiting Dyersburg State. Motlow shot well from the field, hitting 56% of their shots overall and 47% from behind the three-point line. The Bucks led 52-28 at halftime, and all 12 players that got into the game scored at least two points.

Brandon Berridge led five double-figure scorers with 14 points and added seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Trey James had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, Dequon Miller added 11 points and eight assists, Reggie Williams scored 11, and Greg Mason had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Saturday’s matchup against Southwest, which came into the game leading the conference with only one loss, featured the largest crowd of the season. The Bucks did not disappoint as they overcame an early 6-0 deficit with a 9-0 run to take their first lead three minutes in. The Saluqis pulled back out in front 31-30 late in the first half, but a 9-4 Motlow run ended the half with the home team holding a 39-35 advantage.

The Bucks opened the second half on a 10-2 run and never trailed again. Motlow shot the ball very well, connecting on 53% from the field and 48% from the three-point line.

Miller was spectacular, scoring 29 points, including six 3-pointers, and was 7-7 from the free throw line, where the Bucks hit 25-34 attempts. Miller added seven assists and two steals. James had another double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Kentrell Southern also scored 15 points, Kytrel Williams had 12, and Mason and Emmanuel Ezoua each added seven points. Mason also pulled down nine rebounds.

Former Motlow player Perrin Buford led the visiting Saluqis with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Otis Devine added 14 points.

The Volunteer State Pioneers (7-10, 3-5) are coming off a tough weekend as they dropped home games to both Dyersburg State and Southwest Tennessee.
