The Central High School Red Raider baseball team bounced back from a tough loss in its season opener Monday and run-ruled Warren County 12-2 Tuesday night in the team’s home opener.

Senior Peyton Meeker started on the mound for CHS and pitched a complete game, surrendering just four hits, walking three and striking out five.

The Raiders scored three runs in the home half of the first, then added five in the second. They then added three more in the third and one in the fifth to end the game early via the mercy rule.

Meeker also led the way on offense, finishing with  three hits. Hudson Rollman added three as well and five RBIs while Kyle Douglas notched two hits and three runs scored.

“Offensively it was a good night,” said CHS head coach Brent Whitlock. “We hit the ball hard. It was exactly what we needed to see after Monday’s game.”

The Raiders struck out 14 times as a team Monday night at Warren County in a 2-1 loss in 14 innings. The turned it around Tuesday, striking out just once as a team.

The team will play Lebanon at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Powers Field.

“Zach Holder is going to be on the mound for us. If he has a good outing like I expect and we have the same approach at the plate as we did last night, we should have a good day,” said Whitlock

CHS soccer

The Red Raider soccer team lost 3-0 to Riverdale in the 2014 season opener Tuesday night at Carden-Jarrell Field.

The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and added one goal in the second half to seal the win.

WMS baseball

The Rocket baseball team lost to Fayetteville City 20-2 Tuesday night in Lincoln County.

Joseph Carrick and Jacob Johnston each finished with an RBI and Jeremiah Franklin and Jonathon Sherrill plated the runs for the Rockets.

“We couldn’t make routine plays,” said WMS head coach Tyrell Campbell. “We will chalk it up as a learning experience and try to get better.”
