Cavender walk-off home run sends Blue Devils packing

Tyler Cavender hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday night at Powers Field to earn the Central High School Red Raider baseball team’s second straight win.

The Raiders defeated Lebanon 4-3 after run-ruling Warren County Tuesday night.

CHS’ Zach Holder, who started the game on the mound, got the scoring started in the home-half of the first  inning with a two-run home run.

Holder pitched five complete before giving way to Dylan Sandoval for the final two.

“I was proud of our effort today,” said CHS head coach Brent Whitlock. “Last night was an emotional night so we were a little flat today but we did enough to win and that is part of the growing process.”

The Blue Devils took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning after cutting the CHS lead to 2-1 in the fourth. The Raiders tied the game in the sixth when Hudson Rollman scored on a fielder’s choice.

“I was happy to get the win, we have had a pretty good week so far,” said Whitlock.

The team was scheduled to play Thursday in Murfreesboro but the game was canceled. They will play at La Verge with a 6:30  p.m. start tim Friday.

“We saw them in the preseason and they are a scrappy team,” explained Whitlock. “We can’t come out flat, we will have to get after them.”

Junior right-hander Dallas Bryan will get the nod on the pitching rubber Friday night for the Raiders.
