Graduates of the Central High School class of 2014 toss their graduation caps into the air at the conclusion of Friday’s commencement exercises at Carden-Jarrell Field.

The Class of 2014 said farewell to Central High School in celebratory fashion Friday night at Carden-Jarrell Field, with approximately 350 students throwing their caps in the air at the end of the night to signal the end of a 13-year journey.

“Wherever you go, whatever you do, in your struggle – don’t forget the dream,” CHS principal Joey Vaughn told the class after a

motivational story of a cyclist who “forgot his dream” during the struggle of the Tour de France.

“You have completed your high school career. You have achieved one dream,” added Vaughn. “There are many other dreams in your minds tonight. There will be struggles along the way. You will overcome those struggles as you work to achieve those dreams. You are about to begin a new stage in your life.”

Student body president Hunter Morrow-Elder also emphasized a theme that big things are ahead for graduates – reminding them that they haven’t been excited for graduation, but for the future.

“We are excited for tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day we get to leave that building that is three miles down the road to house all the people who, to put it simply, aren’t us. We’re gone,” said Morrow-Elder during his address to the class. “That building down the road holds memories for each for us. But, they aren’t our peak. Those walls …..
