Kelsey Munn and Lauren Brown have both signed to play basketball at Motlow College after each had a standout senior season at Central High School. Brown was the Lady Raiders’ leading scorer while Munn led the team in blocked shots; both players returned to the CHS basketball court after not playing their sophomore or junior seasons.
Lady Raider head coach Herb Horton says that Motlow is getting not just two good basketball players but people off the floor as well.
“I am excited for both of them, they are both quality young ladies and they have proven on the court they are deserving of getting this chance but more than that they are two kids of high character,” said Horton. “We have been blessed to have them in our program and I am happy they both get a chance to continue playing the sport they love; it is a win for Motlow and it is win for our program.”
Brown, who began playing basketball in sixth grade, said she wanted to stay close to home and have a chance to play at the next level so Motlow was the right fit.
“I like it because it’s close to home and I wanted to be close to my family,” said Brown. “I have been scrimmaging with the team and it was good, they treated us like we were already on the team, they treated us like family.”
Munn, who began playing basketball in fourth grade, had similar reasons for choosing the Lady Bucks.
“It’s close to home, I’m not ready to go to some big college yet,” said Munn. “I had another offer but it was too far away – I have already made friends with a few of the players and I think it is going to be a great fit.”
Horton said that both Brown and Munn, despite missing time during the middle of the season, played a big part in the success the Lady Raiders had at the end of last season.
“Both of them had to miss some time during the season but they both did a great job and improved immensely throughout the season,” said Horton. “Getting them both back healthy down the stretch was a big difference in our team; down the stretch we were a pretty good team and those two were very instrumental in that.”
Motlow is currently searching for a new women’s basketball coach; athletic director Tori Raby-Gentry oversaw the recruitment and signing of the former Lady Raiders. According to Raby-Gentry the Lady Bucks hope to have a new coach in place by the middle of June.
