Accident closes Hillsboro Blvd. near Interstate-24 114 overpass

U.S. Highway 41 (Hillsboro Blvd.) was closed down for a long period of time Thursday morning after a two-vehicle accident involving a car and a tractor-trailer.
The driver of the car, Juan Ayala, 39, of Polk Street, Manchester, appeared to drive up under the trailer from the rear, according to Manchester Fire Department Chief George DeShields. According to DeShields, Ayala was put onto a helicopter and flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. His is listed in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon at Erlanger.
“The driver was entrapped and we worked for about 40 minutes [to remove him],” DeShields said.
According to DeShields, crews from Coffee County EMS, Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Manchester Police Department, Air Evac, Jeff’s Wrecker Service, AEDC and Gilley Crane worked the scene.
