We all scream for ice cream
Local dairy family’s simple peach ice cream recipe offers straight from the farm taste
For Ginny Burns, daughter of local farm-direct dairy provider Dennis and Lois Casey, of Casey Family Farms, freshness is a family legacy, so her go-to ice cream recipe is sure to deliver.
“With the Cream Line Milk, you don’t need the cream because it has the cream in it,” Burns said.
The Burns recipe is wonderfully simple: milk, sugar, pure vanilla extract, Bains Orchard peaches and sugar.
The quality comes from the ingredients rather than complexity of method.
First, make homemade peach slurry by adding peaches to simple syrup, made from boiling the ½ cup sugar and ¼ cup water. Add diced peaches and set aside.
The peach mix is stirred into the remaining ingredients and added to the mixer bowl of the ice cream freezer, cover with ice and rock salt. Then, follow your ice freezer directions.
Burns’ husband, Ray, suggests for family cookouts, starting the ice cream the same time as the grill, so it will be ready just in time for dessert.
