With changes sweeping through Manchester following the Aug. 2 election, the downtown car cruise-in appears to be on the move.

File photo by Josh Peterson - Pictured is a downtown car cruise-in during May of 2010. Cruise-in organizers have announced that they will hold the September event in Hillsboro, taking it away from downtown Manchester.
Organizers with the cruise-in, which has taken place on the square on one Saturday each month throughout the spring, summer and fall for the past few years, say the September event will not be held around the courthouse but at the Hillsboro Community Park.
New mayor Lonnie Norman said he supported keeping the event in Manchester.
“If they want to have it, we will support them any kind of way they need,” said Norman. “If they need police, a stage or streets blocked off, I will be glad to help them.
“I’m glad to help any way I can. I’m not trying to stop nothing.”
Despite the gesture from Norman, organizers will hold the next cruise-in – titled “Cruisin’ the Backroads” – to benefit the Hillsboro Homecoming Association from 5-9 p.m. Sept. 8 at 7926 Hillsboro Highway in Hillsboro.
There will be a 50-50 drawing with door prizes, music with Steve Smith and food.
