Students from Cathy Hand’s pre-k class Thursday were the first ever to play on Westwood Elementary School’s
new recreation equipment purchased with a state grant and money from the Volunteer Pre-K Funds. Pictured, testing the slide’s coefficient of friction, quality of descent and optimum fun value is pre-k student Neyland James, above. Left Taylor James tries the xylophone, and below, Hand gives the class a spin. Westwood Principal Sandra Morris said that the equipment is Americans with Disabilities Certified. “We have several students in wheelchairs that will be able to use it,” she said. Workers installed similar equipment at College Street Elementary School last week.
