Family Music Center hosts songwriter show

Caitlynne Curtis

The Family Music Center of Manchester will hold a Songwriter’s Smash, beginning at 4 p.m. on Sept.29 at the store on Hillsboro Boulevard.

Tickets in advance or at the door will be $10 for  adults, $5 for children, and free for children three and under.

Sunday Circle Production and Family Music Center present will produce the event.

In addition to area songwriters from all over the Southeast competing for prizes, there will be a concert consisting of up and coming featured artists Riley Joe, Caitlynne Curtis, Danielle Anderson and Tristan Hairston.

These artists will be competing with each other for Best Song/Best Performance.

Lisa Edmonson Sparks will be providing vocal harmonies for the artists and throughout the evening.

The songwriting contest judges Bruce Burch, Ronnie Buff and David Hammonds are highly accomplished music industry professionals.

Entries will be judged on specific criteria such as lyrical content, story progression, arrangement, and marketability.

The contest is a best song/lyric competition, not a vocal and instrument contest, so don’t worry if you’re a songwriter and you think you can’t sing or play an instrument well. In a twist, the contestants will judge the featured artists performances. The artists will be performing original songs as well and scored based upon the votes of the writing contestants. The artists will be judged for best song, delivery and overall performance.

The judges will perform as well.

Prizes will include, acoustic guitar, a professional studio demo, a photoshoot and cash.
