Keith said he believes the drawer was thrown into the lake as the robbers fled toward I-24 in Manchester.
Charles Duntay Gray, 23, and Mario A. Moore, 28, were arrested a couple of hours after they allegedly robbed the Barton Springs Store of over $700 in cash.
According to Coffee County Sheriff Investigator Chad Partin, the two men entered the store around noon Saturday and Moore showed what appeared to be a .22-caliber pistol and demanded the store’s money.
“He then reached over and grabbed the money draw and the pair fled,” Partin stated.
According to the investigator, as the alleged thieves fled from the store, one of the men was “hanging out the window,” so the owners of the store, Dennis and Keith Floyd, fired a few shots at them but did not strike them.
The Floyd’s then called 911 and informed the Coffee County Communication Center of the robbery. Coffee County deputy Mike Smith was in the area and began pursuit of a 1980’s Oldsmobile the alleged robbers were in. According to Partin, as the deputy was pursuing the vehicle it came to a stop due to the transmission.
“We recovered the cash drawer a short distance from the store and found the money after they were arrested,” Partin stated Saturday afternoon. The pistol used in the robbery was not recovered, however, deputies found ammunition for a 22-caliber pistol.
Gray was charged with aggravated robbery and simple possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $105,000.
Moore was charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest and reckless endangerment. His bond was set at $115,000.
Both men are scheduled to appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court Oct. 15.
