A1C is a test that measures the average blood glucose for the previous two to three months. Woodall, a diabetic, said he tries to visit the health fair every year.
“We usually try to come every year,” said Woodall as he sat down to have blood drawn for an A1C test. “I hope to go have my blood sugar checked in a minute.
“This is a good place to come and get information.”
The health fair at the Manchester-Coffee County Conference Center Thursday included 35 vendors and 500 people attended. It was the 10th annual event hosted by the hospital.
“We have a lot of repeat people who come every year,” said URMC chief executive officer Martha Logan. “There were some new faces, as well. We were pleased with the turnout. I think there was a good variety of vendors and new information available to all who attended.”
Manchester resident Reagor Reese has attended the event every year.

“This is the tenth one I’ve been to,” said Reese while trying out a healthy sample of soup prepared by conference center chef Mike Osborne. “It’s a great thing for some of these people who don’t have insurance.”
Vendors were available from all areas of healthcare, including some areas not directly linked to healthcare like the Coffee County Health Council, which focuses on healthy dieting and exercise.
The hospital plans to have next year’s event around the same time. Plans are underway for next year’s event.
“It is a tradition and we plan to continue providing this service,” said Logan.
