Funeral services for Mrs. Zyphia Ann Douglas, age 59, of Manchester, will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Anderson and Bro. Ross Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Lynch Cemetery in Coffee County, TN. Visitation with the family was from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Douglas passed away Saturday afternoon at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Mrs. Douglas was born in Bedford County, TN, the daughter of the late Eddie and Sara Estell Ledbetter McCart. She was a cook for the Coffee County Schools System at the high school and attended Hurricane Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Douglas was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Comwell McCart, Jr. and Ray McCart. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Ronnie Douglas of Manchester; one son, Ronnie D. Douglas, Jr. of Manchester; two daughters, Christy L. (Chuck) Alford and Donna A. (John Jones) Douglas, both of Manchester; three brothers, Edward McCart, Thomas McCart, and Robert McCart, all of Manchester; one sister, Margaret Jones of Manchester; and eight grandchildren, Zyphia Lynn Douglas, Chuck D. “Cotton” Cope, 83
Mr. Johnnie Carel “Cotton” Cope age 83 of the Midway community near Sewanee passed away Friday, November 30, 2012, in Erlanger Medical Center from complications of a stroke. He was born in Alabama on July 10, 1929, a son of the late Tom O. Cope and Bertha Mae Smith Cope. He had worked many years at Monteagle Silo and was preceded in death by brothers, Wes, Jess, Gibb, Roy and Jack Sargent; sisters, Bess, Allie and Phenie; son, Charles Cope; grandson, Charles Tant. Survivors include his wife, Sara “Lib” Cope; children, Carolyn (Jerry) Nunley, Sewanee, Connie Reavis, Decherd, Chuck (Beverly) Cope, Decherd and Celena (Mark) Green, Sewanee; brother, Joe Sargent, Monteagle; sister, Lucille Neeley, Nashville; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews and his “special” dog, Sugar. Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Harrison Cemetery. The family receivef friends 5-9 P.M. June St. John
Memorial services for Mrs. June St. John Duckett, age 74, of the Pocahontas community of Coffee County, TN, were conducted at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Freeman officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. Visitation with the family was from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, December 5 at the funeral home. Mrs. Duckett passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Duckett was born in the Ivy Bluff community of Cannon County, TN, the daughter of the late Virgil and Goldia Winnett St. John. She attended Ivy Bluff United Methodist Church and Manchester First United Methodist Church. She began her career as a legal secretary for Judge John Shields in Coffee County, and was later a secretary at AEDC. For most of her career, she owned a catering business, Susannah’s Catering, where she was well known for her wedding cakes. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Duckett was also preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Willis. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lee Duckett, of the Pocahontas community; one son, Chris (Julie) Duckett of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Julee (David) Grosch and Janet (David) Orrick, both of the Pocahontas community; five brothers, Fred St. John of Birmingham, AL, Harry St. John of McMinnville, Loyd St. John of Owensboro, KY, Bill St. John of Gonzales, TX, and Doug St. John of the Pocahontas community; two sisters, Maxine St. John of Mexico and Linda St. John of the Pocahontas community; and nine grandchildren, Andy Grosch, Eric Grosch, Amy Duckett, Carly Duckett, Annalee Duckett, Emma Duckett, Elsie Duckett, Will Rigsby, and Makenna Orrick. Mr. Haley passed away on Monday, December 3 at Horizon Health and Rehab Center in Manchester. Mr. Haley was born in Coffee County, TN, the son of the late Alex and Josephine Wiser Haley. He worked in sales at Western Auto. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and was of the Methodist faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haley was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Lee Haley and Walter Haley; and three sisters, Emma Jones, Effie Wilson and Audie Alford. Louise H. Willis, 84
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise H. Willis, age 84, of Hillsboro, were conducted at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jon Bell and Rev. Bob Jared officiating. Burial followed at Hillsboro Methodist Cemetery. Visitation with the family was from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Willis passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at her residence, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Willis was born in Viola, TN, the daughter of the late Paul F. and Octa Roach Haston. She was a homemaker and a very active member in the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church for many years. She served as Thompson Hall’s 4-H Volunteer leader and a Coffee County 4-H sponsor for nearly 60 years. She and her family were named as 1991 Tennessee Master 4-H Family of the Year. Mrs. Willis was a member of the Thompson Hall Home Demonstration Club and served on the Coffee County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee. She and her husband served as advisors for Coffee County Young Farmers and Homemakers organization. During her lifetime, she logged in many hours as a volunteer for the Hillsboro Elementary School PTA. Mrs. Willis is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Fred C. Willis of Hillsboro; four daughters, Jeanne (Jon) Bell, Bobbie (Bill) Myers, Charlotte (Joe) Keele, and Angie Banks; two sons, Charles (Terri) Willis and Brent (Linda) Willis, all of Hillsboro; one brother, Lowell (Patty) Haston of Viola; sixteen grandchildren, Diana (Matt) Clarady, Jon (Jennifer) Bell, Jr., Emily (Kevin) Ragland, Bryan (Jane) Myers, Beth (Brian) O’Reilly, Beverly (Jeff) Keele, Belinda (Chad) Black, Quent (Amanda) Willis, Whitney (Mandy) Willis, Lance Willis, Wesley (Margaret) Keele, Maggie (Michael) Millraney, Amy Willis, Ethan Willis, Zachary Banks, and Remington Banks; and 15 great grandchildren. Mrs. Schoberth was born in Saginaw, MI, and was of the Lutheran faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Schoberth, who passed away in 2002. Mr. Alford passed away Friday, December 7, 2012. He was born April 28, 1954 in McMinnville, TN the son of Mrs. Nina Ruth Hockett Alford and the late, Jesse Lee Alford. Affectionately nicknamed “Worm” by family and friends, Ronnie loved to hunt, fish and go 4-wheeling. He loved his family and will be dearly missed by all. She had formerly worked as an Accountant at Temco, Inc. and was a member of the Prairie Plains Baptist Church. She was born in Manchester, TN to her parents, the late Virgil R. Dickerson and Avaree J. Certain Dickerson and was also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Jody Dickerson. She is survived by her husband, David J. Hambrick of Tullahoma, TN; step-children, Teresa Hambrick Abdellatif and Brian Hambrick both of Tullahoma, TN; two grandchildren, Bryce Tripllete and Aiden Konner Hambrick; sister, Carolyn Bearden of Hillsboro, TN; brother, Donald Dickerson and his wife Christine of Franklin County, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends. SLATTON, Dottie Louise Walden age 72 of Hillsboro, Tennessee, passed into eternal rest on December 7, 2012 at the Kindred Hospital in Nashville. She was born September 19, 1940 in Manchester, TN to her parents, the late Marven and Dottie Walden and was preceded in death by her brother Richard Walden. She was a retired Seamstress with PCA Apparel Industries, Inc. and Edens Industries, Inc. Louise will be fondly remembered as a Christian homemaker who loved to help anyone in need by extending her hand, whether it was with a place to stay, a meal or clothes. She loved to use her voice to sing praises to God and was a member of the Common Salvation Church. Louise will be missed greatly by her family and friends, but we can thank God for the many wonderful memories that she left behind. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Eugene Slatton of Hillsboro, TN; children, Wayne Reed (Janice) of Hillsboro, TN, Carl Reed (Joann) of HIllsboro, TN, Melissa Reed of Whitwell, TN, Cory Slatton (Tabitha) of Hillsboro, TN; brother, Ronnie Walden of Manchester, TN; sister, Betty McCormick of Manchester, TN; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Doris Evelyn Haley Powell, 81, of Woodbury, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at her home. Born in Cannon County, Doris is survived by three children: Danny (Darlene) Powell, Jeff (Miriam) Powell and Annette Payne, all of Woodbury; daughter-in-law Judy Powell of Woodbury; sisters Armilda (Linwood) Mathis of Paducah, Ky. And Faye Houston of Woodbury; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A member of the Pleasant View Church of Christ, she was a homemaker. She was known for her cooking and her hospitality, serving in her home and church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley Ora Haley & Ossie Vera McDougal Haley; Husband, Odell Powell; son, Jerry Powell; son-in-law, Dale Payne; sister, Hazel Brazzell. Mr. Moore passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Moore was born in Missouri the son of the late Wilson David Moore and Hazel Self Moore of Oak Ridge, Missouri who survives. He was a lifelong carpenter and enjoyed NASCAR racing. In his earlier years, Mr. Moore was active in car racing. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Kelly Moore and by a sister, Velma Couch. Survivors include his wife, Pamela Sons of Winchester; sons, Timothy Joseph Daryle Sons of Tullahoma, Jimmy Lee Sons and Nicholas Clifton George Parks of Winchester; stepdaughters, Jamie Brown, Christie Reed and Kandi Parks of Winchester; brothers, Gary Lee Sons and Freddie Dewayne Sons, of Estill Springs; several nieces and nephews.
