Red Raiders, Lady Raiders both fall to Shelbyville
Earlier this season, playing at home, the Central High School Red Raiders and Lady Raiders earned decisive victories over Shelbyville Central. Tonight’s rematches in Shelbyville were just as decisive, but with very different results: the Golden Eagles defeated the Red Raiders 54-42, and the Lady Raiders fell to the Eaglettes 51-34.
The Lady Raiders led 15-12 at the end of the first period, but in the second quarter Shelbyville repeatedly stole the ball under Coffee County’s basket and capitalized on their own possessions. After taking the lead in the first half, the Eaglettes widened it throughout the game. Leading scorers for Coffee County were Ginny Clayborne (13) and Alaina Lusk (10). Shelbyville’s Breanna Harner led all scorers with 15.
The Red Raiders trailed from the start. Coffee County eventually managed 18 points in the fourth period, but the increased offensive production was matched by 20 points from the Eagles. Leading scorers for the Red Raiders were Brock Ivey-Bodman (13) and Lucas Crismond (10). Leading the Shelbyville offense was Tarist Allison with 21.
The girls will begin play this Thursday in the Smoky Mountain Classic against host school Gatlinburg-Pittman. Following a short Christmas break the boys will play Kingsbury of Memphis and Nashville’s Hume-Fogg, respectively, in the Central Magnet Classic Dec. 28 and 29.
