When White County High School came to town Friday, both Coffee County Central High School varsity basketball squads finished their regular seasons with surprises–one pleasant, and one far from it. In the girls game, the Lady Raiders were unable to hold a 10-point lead with a little over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Red Raiders, on the other hand, upset the top team in the district.

The  CHS Lady Raiders dropped their final game of the season 50-45 in overtime, but the boys hammered the Warriors 51-36.

Top scorers for the Lady raiders were Ginny Clayborne (16) and Alaina Lusk (14). The Lady Raiders finish their regular season at 14-13 (5-3 District 6-AAA).

Adding poignancy to the loss was the presence of the 1993 Lady Raiders state champions team, who were together at the Memorial Gym for a 20-year ceremony. The 1992-93 team, which went 32-3, suffered their only losses that season to White County.

In the boys game, White County jumped ahead 11-7 in the first quarter as Coffee County failed to make shots. The second period was a different story. the Red Raiders disrupted the Warriors’ offense while coming alive on their side. They gained in the lead and widened it through the rest of the contest.

Top scorers for Coffee County were Lance Crismond (22) and Lucas Crismond (11).

The Red Raiders finish the regular season 11-15 (2-6 district).

The district tournament will begin late next week in Sparta.
