ASHLEY, AUSTIN “A.I.”, age 81, of Estill Springs, Tenn., departed this life on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Mr. Ashley attended the Decherd Church of God. He was retired from A.E.D.C. where he was employed for 41 years as an Operating Engineer. Mr. Ashley’s favorite hobby was fishing. Everyone that knew Mr. Ashley knew him as a friend. He always had a smile and a fishing story to share. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma Ashley, children; Brenda (Jerry) Ferrell, David (Barbara) Ashley all of Estill Springs, Delilah (Gary) Gunn of Thompsons Station, Tenn., Doug (Beth) Ashley of Broadview, brothers, Tommy (Betty) Ashley and Allen (Karen) Ashley all of Indiana, grandchildren; Jody Ferrell, Julie (Charlie) Walker, Josh (Lynn) Gunn, Derek (Shayna) Gunn, Lennon Ashley, Michael Dustin Ashley, Ricky (Krystal) Livingston and David (April) Livingston, several great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Ashley was held from 5-8 p.m. Friday evening in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, with Bro. Johnny Carr, Bro. Geneva Simpson Brandon, 84, of Woodbury, Tenn., passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 at Stones River Hospital. Funeral service was held at Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3 with Bro. Mark Stinnett and Bro. Herb Alsup officiating. Interment followed at Cateston Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday. Mrs. Brandon was preceded in death by her parents, Hilary & Eunice Jones Simpson; her husband, Charles Seymour Brandon; a son, Melvin Brent Brandon; siblings, Alvie, Sterling and Robert Simpson; Sisters, Opal Sanders, Ellen Brandon and Dorothy Collins. Geneva loved to cook and have her family for dinner. She also enjoyed quilting and made all of the grandchildren baby quilts. She was a member of the Baptist Church and a housewife. She is survived by children Carolyn (Henry) Alford, Ellis (Teresa) Brandon, Lynn (Mitzi) Brandon and Charley “Jr.” (Paula) Brandon all of Woodbury and Gail (Ray) Spry of Manchester. She is also survived by sister-in-law Elizabeth Simpson of Woodbury, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was born in Manchester, TN to her parents the late Joe Jernigan and Gladys Jernigan. She was also preceded in death by Jean & Leighton Crosslin and Claranell Jernigan. Memorial services for Mr. Luke Maurice Collins, age 55, of Manchester, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Elijah Collard officiating. Luke passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. after a hard fought struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Luke was born on July 20, 1957 in Clinton, TN, the son of the late Ivan F. Collins and Emily Inez Collins, who survives. He lived most of his childhood and adult life in Manchester and obtained an Associate Degree of Science at Motlow State Community College in 1978 and a Bachelor of Education Degree from MTSU in 1982. Over his life span, he had a variety of jobs, but the ones he enjoyed the most were those of being a substitute teacher and working with special needs children. He had a special gift of getting through to them when others could not – with calmness, laughter and understanding. Prior to going to a nursing home in the fall of 2012, he had been the primary caregiver for his elderly mother for about five years. Luke was a very religious man, who loved going to church, sharing the word of God, reading his Bible and praying. His Bible was well worn with many verses underlined. Although he never married, for the last 12 years of his life, Luke had a special sweetheart, Laura Turnquist of Dade City, Fla. They were only able to se each other three times in person; however, they had a special love for each other and spent many hours on the phone and computer, listening to music, watching movies, laughing and sharing their fears and sorrows. In addition to his mother, Luke is also survived by one sister, Brenda Harris; four brothers, Jack, Ken, Ron and Eric Collins; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Emma Ruth “Emily” Crabtree, 81
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Ruth “Emily” Crabtree, age 81, of Manchester, were conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family was from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Crabtree passed away on Monday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Mrs. Crabtree was born in Coffee County, TN, the daughter of the late Claude and Jettie Brandon Smartt. She was of the Church of Christ faith and was a self-employed business owner. She played basketball for Coffee County High School, loved reading and investigating real estate. She attended as many Senior Citizens functions as possible in Manchester, Tullahoma, and Winchester and also enjoyed cooking for the homebound and chauffeuring people to their doctor’s appointments. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crabtree was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John Henry Crabtree; one brother, Charles Smartt; and two sisters, Jean Parker and Katherine Jackson. She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Kenton) Smithson of Ooltewah, TN and Delores (Marcus) Kenyon of Soddy Daisy, TN; three brothers, Bill, C.L. and Doug Smartt; two sisters, JoAnn Hord and Pamela Masoud; three grandchildren, Katie (Jay) Wylie, Matthew (Jean Ko) Smithson, and Jonathan Grubb; two great grandchildren, William and Anna Wylie; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. ESSLINGER, Phillip Ray, age 63 of Hillsboro, Tennessee, passed away on February 28, 2013 in Havre De Grace, Maryland. Mr. Esslinger was a Owner/Operator Truck Driver and United States Veteran. He was born in Huntsville, Alabama to his parents, the late Andrew David Esslinger, Jr. and Donna Ray Preston Esslinger. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Franklin and Rachael Holliday; and brother, Harold Esslinger. He was a devoted husband, father and provider who worked tirelessly to support his family. He delivered and setup manufactured homes for many years before driving his own flatbed tractor trailers in his final years. He was unmatched for his love for his children who were his whole world. He will be greatly missed and remembered as a life long cowboy who enjoyed trail rides with his family and friends and watching westerns. He is now on his final ride to heaven. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Sue Esslinger of Hillsboro; children, Michael B. Esslinger of Hillsboro, Joey R. Esslinger of Hillsboro, David Esslinger of Manchester, Tina Gilliam of Tullahoma, Bryan L. Humphries (Candie) of Tullahoma and Mark W. Funeral Services for Mrs. Jean Floyd, age 75, of Manchester were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Eddie Canady officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday from at the funeral home. Mrs. Floyd passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. Thomas Hospital. Mrs. Floyd was born September 1, 1937 in Manchester, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Ethel Lowery Poff. Mrs. Floyd worked for 25 years at United Regional Medical Center and as a cashier at the local Walmart. She enjoyed traveling to Gatlinburg and Tunica and planning family gatherings. Mrs. Floyd also loved to cook and go fishing. Mrs. Floyd enjoyed supporting all her grandchildren in their activities. She was a member of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Floyd, one daughter, Susie Gilliam, three brothers Raymond, Roy and Glen Poff, and one sister Shirley Nippers. GREER, Lois A. Duke, age 96 of Manchester, Tennessee, went to be with her Lord on February 27, 2013. Mrs. Greer was a homemaker and had worked at the Carter Shoe Company in Nashville for over 17 years. Most importantly, she was a dedicated Christian and member of the Chapman’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene in Pelham, TN. She was born in Bradyville, TN to her parents, the late Calvin Stacey and Mattie Warren Stacey. She was also preceded in death by her husband’s Clyde Duke and Charles William “C.W.” Greer who passed away in 2008. Mrs. Greer will be fondly remembered as one who loved her Lord, family and friends and enjoyed cooking, quilting, needlework and especially growing flowers. She is survived by her sons, Russell K. STACY, Coy Ray, age 82 of Elkhart, Indiana and former Coffee County, TN. resident, passed away on February 19, 2013 in Elkhart, IN. He was born in Summitville, TN to his parents, the late Raymond Lester Stacy and Jessie Pearl Burks Stacy. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Terry Stacy. Mr. Stacy was an avid Historian and Genealogist and had traced the family lines back several generations. Mr. Stacy is survived by his sister, Clara Butler and her husband Arthur of Elkhart, IN; nephew, Raymond (Lisa) Butler; nieces Elaine Stacy and Jessica Butler; great-nephews, David Butler, Chris Shirley and Dalton Shirley; great-niece, Nicole Butler; and a host of other relatives and friends.
