Coffee County falls to Pioneers in district baseball opener

Despite out-hitting Warren County nine to four, the Central High School Red Raiders lost 3-2 to the Pioneers in their district baseball opener Thursday afternoon at Warren County High School.

This week all five District 6-AAA schools are in McMinnville for an in-season district round-robin tournament.

Red Raider starting pitcher Caleb Koger gave up only four hits and one earned run in six innings, but it was the two unearned runs that sank the Raiders. Coffee County’s John Reese Gilmer had two hits in the game, as did junior catcher Tyler Cavender, who slammed a pair doubles.

The Red Raiders are now 1-7 on the year and 0-1 in the district. Coffee County take on Cumberland County at 8 p.m. Friday in McMinnville. And plays a pair of district games with White County and Cookeville over the weekend at Warren County High School.
