Westwood soccer no longer undefeated

Throughout the season, which opened with eight consecutive wins, Westwood Middle School soccer coach Jonathan Graf has made a point of telling his players to be ready to run into the team that’s “bigger and badder.”

The Rockets finally found that team Thursday, Mar. 20,  and suffered their first defeat, in a 2-0 contest at Warren County Middle School.

Both teams came into the match undefeated. Warren County fielded a clearly bigger and faster squad, but Westwood matched the Pioneers in a scoreless first half. Much of the credit for holding Warren County scoreless in the first period goes to goal-keeper Davis Green, who had nine saves in the half. Chase Harper was also effective in providing a strong presence at midfield.

The Rockets are now 8-1 for the season. After spring break they travel to Harris Middle in Shelbyville on Thursday, April 4, for their next match.
