EVERYTHING BUT SPORTS: Resurrection

I concluded yesterday’s essay with, “Thinking about death makes me that much more determined to live, and help others do the same.” That’s certainly true, but I don’t want to give the impression that my only hope is living well in those very few days I’ve been allotted on this earth. How sad reality would be if the mess we’re in here is all there is.

In 1 Corinthians 15 the Apostle Paul wrote, “But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is futile and your faith is empty. . . . For if only in this life we have hope in Christ, we should be pitied more than anyone” (NET).

For more than 20 years I’ve made my living with words, but I don’t think I have words to tell you just how much joy I find in a real hope in Christ. That’s the joy I want for me and for you. That’s what living really is.

I serve as sports writer for the Manchester Times and preacher and elder for the Church of Christ at Fredonia, but the thoughts expressed here are my own. I’d love to hear from you. Please email me at mtsports@lcs.net.
