Cumberland County smacked 10 hits to only five by Coffee County. That result was a reversal of recent games, in which both hitting and pitching have been strong for the Lady Raiders. At Crossville Coffee County was the first to score with two runs in the top of the third. A seven-run fourth for Cumberland County, however, put the Lady Jets on top to stay.
Managing hits for Coffee County were Bethany Baker with two singles, Ashlynn Young with a double and Brittany Williams and Bricen Hunt, each with a single.
The Lady Raiders were flawless in the field, and all eight Cumberland County runs were earned. Brianna Jones (6-4) got the loss after pitching 3 2/3 innings. Despite giving up seven earned runs Tuesday, Jones’s ERA is still only 0.91 for the season with 115 strikeouts in 69 innings.
Coffee County is now 14-6 for the season and 3-2 in the district. Before this season the Lady Raiders had never lost a district game since joining District 6-AAA in 2010.
The Lady Raiders host Baylor at 5 p.m. Thursday. In their previous meeting this season, the Lady Raiders battled to a 12-11 win at Chattanooga.
