Lady Raiders advance in district tournament

The Central High School Lady Raiders won a decisive victory over Warren County Thursday to advance to the next round of the District 6-AAA tournament in Cookeville.

Starting pitcher Brianna Jones allowed only 1 hit and struck out 9 in 7 innings of shutout baseball.

Coffee County broke the game open in the second inning with doubles from Anna Spellings, Ginny Clayborne and Bricen Hunt to put the Lady Raiders up 2-0 in the third. CHS added four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth

Season-long “ball magnet” Alaina Lusk was hit by pitches twice in the Warren County game and used both opportunities on base to score.

The Lady Raiders play in the tournament’s winner’s bracket championship Monday at 7 p.m. in Cookeville, provided rain does not add an additional day to the tournament schedule.
