AUTOMOTIVE: Inside the car

By Wyatt Nettles, J&W Repair

What is inside the car that we control? Lights, radio, windows, door locks, seat belts and more. We need to know how all these systems work.

It is a good idea to get to know how your lights work. We have vehicles that have daytime running lights. This means that we have the headlights or some other lights on at all times. At night, we have to turn on the lights so all lights come on. Vehicles with automatic lights also have lights on the front, but at night the other lights come on automatically. But what about when it is raining or foggy? You may have to turn on your lights manually.

Look at your owner’s manual to figure your radio out. Power windows are nice, but they can break when down. Check the switch for disabling the other windows and door locks from the other seats, important when you have kids. Also, child safety systems on the back doors make sure children can’t open doors from the inside.

Check your seat belts for proper operation. Check the proper place to seat young children. The use of car safety seats is important. Learn how to install them, and where.

Thanks to all our customers for the nomination for “Best Shop” and the winning votes for “Best Mechanic.” This is due to all those who work for us and the best customers we could ask for!
