The Manchester City Board of Mayor and Aldermen chose not bring to a vote a rumored call to oust police Chief Mark Yother and Fire Chief George DeShields during Tuesday’s meeting.
In order to make an administrative change, the action would have had to have a motion, a second and carried a majority vote. No motion was made.
Neither did the meeting agenda contain any mention an administrative action, but the rumored intent brought a standing-room-only crowd in support of the two.
Many members of the emotionally charged crowd praised the changes that both chiefs have made during their tenure.
Yother was promoted to chief in August 2012. DeShields was hired in May 2013 following former Chief Charlie Taylor resigned February of that year.
No mention was made at the meeting by the board as to any wrongdoings of the two chiefs or to the origin of the rumors of the change.
