CHS girls lose, boys win against Cannon County

The Coffee County Red Raiders defeated the Cannon County Lions 61-49, but the Lady Raiders fell to the top-ranked Division-AA Lionettes 41-38.

In the boys’ game, the Lions jumped out to an early 17-9 lead before a 10-0 streak pushed Coffee County ahead 19-17 at the half. The Red Raiders widened the lead on the strength of 21 of 24 free throws and 21 points each from Lance and Lucas Crismond. Also putting points on the board for Coffee County were Addison Carter (6) Brock Ivey-Bodman (5), Lake Elam (4), Anthony Jackson (3), and Peyton Talley (3).

The win lifts the Red Raiders’ record to 6-10 while dropping Cannon County’s to 8-10.

ranked first in the state at the AA level, gained its 18th win in 19 contests this season.  The loss for Coffee County (7-10) was the sixth by less than three points since the beginning of December.

Alaina Lusk (14) and Ginny Clayborne (12) were top scorers for the Lady Raiders. Also contributing to the Lady Raiders’ offense were Ta’Neesa¬† Bucanan (4), Katie Reid (2), Sydney Pearson (2), Cameron Davis (2), Michaela Gregory (1) and Missy Jones (1).

The Lady Raiders held Cannon County’s top scorer, Abbey Sissom (21 ppg), to 11 points in the first half and none in the second.

The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders travel to Grundy County Tuesday night in another round of non-district matchups.
