Sheriff’s Department Fishing Tournament @ Barton Springs Boat Ramp at Normandy Lake

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department is inviting everyone to its 18th Annual Fishing Tournament to benefit needy children for Coffee County at Christmas.

It takes place Saturday Sept. 24 from 7 a.m. until noon at the Barton Springs Boat Ramp at Normandy Lake.

Entry fee is $10 per person

Last year’s event was a success and the department have helped a lot of kids that would not have had a Christmas at all if it had not been for the kind of generous people that participated in the event.

Trophies to be given in each category will be: Bass; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, Crappie;  1st, 2nd  and 3rd places, Bream; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places and a first place prize for biggest fish caught by a kid.

Tickets may be purchased at the Coffee County Jail at 300 Hillsboro Blvd, or at the boat ramp the morning of the tournament, or by calling 728-3591.

Potter’s Clay health fair @ Ada Wrigth Center

The Potter’s Clay health fair will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Ada Wright Center. All services are free, except the flu shot, available to those 18 and older, for $10. For more information, call (931) 450-0798.

Ultimate Oldies Show

Jamie Harden’s “Ultimate Oldies Show” will be held Sept. 16-18, 23-25 at the Manchester Arts Center. Shows are at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $20, and usually sell out before the show. Go to or call (931) 570-4489 to purchase tickets.

SOS Gulf War veteran reunion @ Tenn. Army National Guard Armory
Sep 25 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

The S.O.S. Survivors of the Storm, consisting of members of the 251st Service and Supply CO. who served during Operation Desert Storm, will hold a 25th reunion At 2 p.m., Sunday Sept., 25 at the Tullahoma Tenn. Army National Guard Armory. The event is organized by the S.O.S. Survivors of the Storm family support group. Since its initial deployment in 1991, the 251st is no longer an active unit, so the event is designed to keep the unit together and preserve memories of the longest deployment during that conflict. Teacher’s forum

A state senate education forum just for regional teachers will be held at the Coffee County Administrative Plaza Monday Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m.

Mike Winton will be in attendance and Sen. Bowlin is invited.

Hospital Aux meeting @ Oak Restaurant

The Hospital Auxiliary of Coffee County, Inc. will have an all-member luncheon meeting beginning at 11:15 a.m. on Tues., Sept. 27 at the Oak Restaurant in Manchester.   We plan to have a speaker from Unity Medical Center at this meeting and encourage all members to attend.

Sons of Confederate Veterans @ Oak Restaurant
Sep 27 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Sons of Confederate Veterans, Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Cheatham Camp 72 will have its regular dinner meeting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27at the Oak Restaurant in Manchester. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. The program for this month will be Richard Dix discussing General Scott’s Anaconda: The Coastal Blockade. Meetings are open to the general public and all War Between the States buffs have a special invitation for the program. Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all males 12 years of age and above who had an ancestor that served honorably in the Confederate Armed Forces or the Confederate Congress and can prove kinship either lineal or collaterally. Help is available to anyone interested in finding and proving kinship.
