The 11th annual Crethan Hansert Memorial Baseball Tournament ended this past Sunday with the Coffee County Red Raiders ultimately finishing in third place and Marshall County finishing first.

“We had 10 teams play and it went great. The weather was great. It wasn’t too hot or too cold and we were very blessed to not have rain,” Crethan’s father Scott Hansert said. “The parents were also really great helping with the concession stands and keeping score.

“We had a really good turnout and were able to use both fields in Manchester and Tullahoma.”

The tournament honors Crethan Hansert, a Raider outfielder who died in a single-car accident Oct. 31, 2003 during his senior year at Central High School.

“Crethan played baseball for the Raiders and was killed in an automobile accident back in 2003,” Hansert said. “I was in construction at the time so we were able to get a lot done in building the [new hitting] facility.

“We used to work in a booth at the Titans games to raise money to pay for it but now we do the tournament every year.

“We raised $4,600 from the tournament this year, which will go toward buying artificial turf from the University of Tennessee’s practice field to put in the hitting facility.”
