Jeremy Staat and Wesley Barrientos’ 4,263 mile bicycle ride to raise awareness for a handful of issues took a short break in Manchester Wednesday.
Staat spoke briefly promoting his Wall to Wall Cross Country Bicycle Ride in front of the Coffee County Courthouse to a gathering of mostly military veterans and community leaders.
“We are riding to raise awareness to several things,” said Staat, a former NFL player and U.S. Marine.
Staat focused mainly on military issues – hitting on veteran suicide, the Veterans Affairs system and improved operation of the GI Bill. He also emphasized childhood obesity as a potential national security threat.
“Eighty percent of youth are unfit for military service,” Staat claimed to the crowd gathered around him. “That’s becoming a threat to our national security.”
