Knowing what the Bible says is very, very good. But stopping with simply knowing can be bad.
A temptation I struggle against is the idea that a Christian’s work is done when he studies and understands the Scripture. But of course that’s only half the work. To do what God wants of us, we have to not only know but do the Word.
As Jesus said, “If you love me, you’ll keep my commandments.”
Understanding the Word can be hard enough. But the real work begins when we actually change our behavior and do what God tells us to do.
