EVERYTHING BUT SPORTS: Tuesday linkfest!

milton-stanley-column bylineThe busy-ness of Monday deadlines kept me from publishing yesterday’s post, but the fact is I just don’t have any mail for the Monday mailbag. I guess I need to talk to both of my readers about sending some in.

I’m happy to report, however, that there’s plenty of material for the Tuesday linkfest, so let’s jump right in.

Here’s a good little article that debunks the foolish but common claim that most wars are caused by religion.Pretty much the only way to uphold the “most wars are caused by religion” canard is to define lust for land, riches, power and control as somehow religious.  Along a related line, Matt Walsh remarks that “Christianity has done more for science than atheism ever could.”

And since we’re on the topic of the world, let’s not let the vicissitudes of news cycles allow us to forget the huge, ongoing scandals facing our country such as the Benghazi scandal and IRS abuse of conservative groups.

As always, Jeff Weddle’s work is worth reading. Here are a couple of the latest: “The words in the Bible are worth way more than the thoughts in your head” and “Your self isn’t as great as you think it is.”

One more writing on Christian discipleship worth reading is Dan Edelen’s “What is the World System? And Why Should Christians Be Wary of It?

Finally, this article from the New York Times  is fascinating, and potentially extraordinarily important: a single person may have multiple sets of DNA.
