For weeks now area football teams have been wearing helmets and shorts in preparation for the upcoming football season. Today the
rest of the pads go on.
Monday is the first official day of football practice in pads across the state of Tennessee. That includes three area teams – Coffee County Central High School, Coffee County Middle and Westwood Middle School.
Westwood will be first on the field at 11:45 p.m. Coffee Middle and Central High School both hit the field at 6 p.m. The middle school, which practices in the shadows of the bleachers at Carden-Jarrell Field, will wrap up at about 8 p.m. Meanwhile, the high school Raiders will practice at the high school and wrap up at about 9 p.m.
“Starting full pads is always the best part to the summer,” said senior Red Raider quarterback Peyton Meeker, who is entering his third year as the starting signal caller for the Raiders. “It shows who the players are.” …
