Coffee County deputy sheriff passes away

Donald “Donnie” Thomas, 76, of Manchester, passed away Saturday (Dec. 2). Thomas was a captain in the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department and former Tullahoma Police Department officer who spent over 45 years in law enforcement.

Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves said Thomas and his service will be missed.

“He was a first-class officer. He was always professional,” Graves said, pointing to Thomas’ nearly 35 years with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department. “He just excelled in law enforcement – it was his life. It’s a tremendous loss.”

Visitation was held Tuesday (Dec. 5) at Kilgore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Van Buren County.

Thomas was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a 32nd degree Mason with Lodge #382 in Hillsboro. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Wilma; son, Johnny Giles; daughter-in-law, Sylvia and three grandchildren, among other family. To see full obituary, see page 6A.
