Johnson plays for Mumford & Sons; Petty to wrap festival Sunday

Jack Johnson was expecting to sit in for a little bit as a surprise visitor to Bonnaroo. Instead, he was surprised.

Johnson was asked to fill in for Mumford & Sons after the band was forced to cancel its Saturday night headlining set after bassist Ted Dwane’s surgery earlier in the week.

After not playing with his band in over a year, Johnson threw together a show in a little over 24 hours and took the stage Saturday night, dedicating the set to Mumford & Sons.

“I expected more train wrecks,” Johnson told Rolling Stone Magazine after his set, highlighting that they hadn’t played a show in over a year.

Johnson put together a personal song for the evening, writing and singing a song about the festival and the events transpiring and eventually leading to his headlining performance….

The 12th festival will wrap Sunday with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at 9:30 p.m.
