The Motlow Lady Bucks extended their winning streak to six games when they traveled to Gadsden, Ala., and swept Gadsden State 2-1, 3-2 Tuesday afternoon. Motlow will host 19th-ranked Walters State this weekend, with Friday’s doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. and Saturday’s games beginning at noon.

The Lady Bucks (14-18, 8-12) have now won eight of their last 10 games and will head into the weekend series against the Lady Senators sitting in the sixth position in the TCCAA standings. Motlow’s pitching was spectacular against Gadsden State as both Lindsey Knoer and Monica Lane pitched complete games.

Game one featured Knoer (7-8) allowing only two hits with four strikeouts in seven innings in Motlow’s 2-1 victory. Gadsden helped the Lady Bucks out by committing five errors in the contest. Motlow scored a run in the second inning as Makenzie Hopkins led off with a single and Bridgette Wilson sacrificed her to second.

Hopkins advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on the passed ball to give Motlow a 1-0 lead. However, the home team took advantage of a Lady Bucks’ error and tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second. The winning run came in the top of the fourth as Wilson reached on an error to lead off the inning and Chelsea Howell moved her to third with a single. Ashley Williams then drove in Howell with a single.

It was Lane (5-3) who brought another outstanding pitching performance to the mound for Motlow in game two, allowing only five hits with five strikeouts in her complete-game effort. After Gadsden scored twice in the first inning, Lane settled down and shut them out the rest of the way. Motlow scored all three of its runs in the third inning.

Morgan Moyers led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second as Williams reached on an error. Both advanced another base when Lauren Warren reached on yet another Gadsden error. With one out and the bases loaded, Keli Bruning drove in two runs with a single. Morgan Frye then grounded out, driving in Warren with the winning run.
