The Westwood Middle School girls’ basketball team, traveling to Lynchburg with a four-game winning streak under its belt, fell to Moore County 36-23.
The usually defensive-minded Lady Rockets (7-4 overall) were held to 10 points in the first half, as Moore County held a 24-10 lead at the intermission.
The Lady Raiders stretched their lead to 36-19 after the third quarter, but went scoreless in the fourth, as Westwood struggled to pull any closer.
Kennedy Young did lead Westwood in scoring, finishing with eight points.

Moore County 40, Rockets 27
The Westwood Rocket basketball team also had its previous winning streak snapped at three games, as Moore County held on for a 40-27 win on Thursday night.
WMS (7-4 overall) found itself trailing 10-2 after the first quarter, and the eight-point deficit held at halftime, with the Raiders leading 14-8.
The Rockets still trailed by nine points after the third quarter, and Moore County was able to pull away at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. The Raiders knocked down a total of seven free throws, and Colton Batera scored eight of his 10 points.
Will Harden scored 23 points to lead both teams in scoring, while John Dobson led the Rockets with seven points in the loss.
