MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Westwood splits home games against Moore County

The Westwood Middle School girls and boys basketball teams, playing in a third-straight home game to open the season, hosted Duck River Valley Conference foe Moore County Thursday night inside Joel Vinson Gymnasium.

The Lady Rockets suffered a 46-23 loss, their second-consecutive, falling behind 28-13 at halftime to the Lady Raiders.

Alex Nelson scored eight points to lead all Westwood (1-2 overall) scorers, while Kasen Holt added five points and Haidyn Campbell scored four.

Rockets 32, Moore County 14

The WMS Rockets basketball team picked up a second-straight win, dropping Moore County 32-14.

Defense led the way for both teams at the start, as Westwood (2-1 overall) took a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, but followed up by scoring the only double-digit quarter of the game for either team in the second (10 points) to take a 14-6 lead at halftime.

Trent Thompson led the Rockets in scoring with eight points, and Will Partin finished closely behind with seven points of his own.
