milton stanley bylineIt was a tough week for the Coffee County Middle School volleyball squad as the Lady Raiders lost matches to Eagleville and Warren County.

Both were hard-fought contests. The second set at Eagleville went 28-26 before the home team took the victory Monday.

On Tuesday the Lady Pioneers won in straight sets, 25-19, 26-24, but the Lady Raiders made Warren County fight for every point. In the second set Warren County jumped to a quick 5-0 lead and held the advantage until a long service by Coffee County’s Tyana Fenton propelled the Lady Raiders to a 10-8 lead. Warren County battled back to a 19-15 lead before another long Coffee County service, this time by Abigail Layne, pushed Coffee County into a 20-19 lead.

With the score tied 20-20 both teams turned up the heat and battled with long volleys. Warren County finally gained the edge, however.

CCMS is now 3-5 in the team’s inaugural volleyball season.  The Lady Raiders have a nearly two-week rest before hosting White County at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23.
