Manchester’s annual Veterans Day ceremony, which is always full of emotion and properly-focused on area veterans, will have a celebrity on hand to honor a local veteran this year.
Six-time Grammy award winner, best-selling author, songwriter, actress and registered nurse Naomi Judd will honor her cherished former nursing supervisor and longtime mentor Althea Cimino at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony in Manchester Monday. This marks the first time that a woman will be recognized and honored at the event.
“When I found out about this opportunity, I leapt at the chance to be there to sing her praises,” said Judd. “In the early 80s, Althea Cimino was my RN supervisor, and when I left nursing to focus on singing in 1983, she and I exchanged addresses to stay in touch. We have always shared a strong connection. Over the years, I’ve marveled at her strong faith and her beautiful family. And, while I didn’t know that she had served as a nurse during the Korean War, it makes perfect sense that she would offer selfless service to her country as well. I’m thrilled to be a part of this special day.”
Judd continued: “Veterans Day is a day to stop and recognize what makes our nation great. It’s important to pause and feel the great sense of gratefulness and pride in our awesome country.”
The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday on the Manchester downtown square.
